I love spending time in the kitchen with my kiddos, and I bet you do too! So, thought I’d share some of my favorite cooking tools for kids that we use all the time!
Never Too Early!
I am a fan of the never too early theory when it comes to cooking with my kids. Whether they were strapped to my chest in the baby carrier or bouncing around in the little walker while I prepped, they’ve always been around the kitchen with me, their Aunt and Granny. I mean, it is so true – nothing cures a bad day like a lick from the mixing bowl. 🙂
Skills for Life
I’ll be the first to admit that growing up I tried to avoid getting roped into cooking. My Mom (and both grandmother’s) can cook the lights out. So I picked up quite a lot. But I tried to stay busy with sports, yet my Granny gave me a Kitchen Aid mixer when I graduated from high school.
Yes, you read that right, high school! I went to undergrad at a college in downtown Denver that didn’t have dorms. So, she knew I’d be cooking a lot, and I still have that mixer to this day, 20+ years later. Man, I miss her.
I guess the long and short of it is, our kids are always watching. Even when we think they’re not. Or they’re over-committed and uninterested. They are learning and consuming it all. They’re truly learning skills for life.
Keep it Safe & Simple
No need to over complicate things. There are so many great tools and gadgets available now to help our kids learn how to cook and bake. From safe knives and cut-resistant gloves. To fun baking sets and cookbooks that help drive inspiration. No matter, what, let them be involved, make messes and have fun!
