Do you remember what it was like to be a young working mom? Just starting a family, about 5 years into your career, doing well, but still making strides to be more financially stable. I totally remember that time in my life, and a major life event that made me super stressed out, I was laid off from my job when my daughter was only 6 months old. But I have to tell you, that’s nothing compared to what my friend and co-worker, Alex, is going through right now.
Alex gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Emerson, on November 16th, and by the evening of December 20th Emerson was in the emergency room. At first the nurses and doctors were unable to pinpoint exactly what was going on, but it was clear that she was having issues with her liver. A couple days later it was determined that her liver was in failure mode and she would need a transplant as soon as possible.
I truly cannot imagine how hard it was to hear that news and in some way to remain hopeful that things would work out for the best. Fast forward through a couple of very scary, touch-and-go weeks, they were able to find a live donor!
Now, to lighten the mood slightly, I have to tell a side story that I hope you’ll find the humor in. The week after Christmas, our VP of HR was keeping everyone updated on Emerson’s progress. One of the emails she sent after they discovered she needed a transplant was seeking volunteers to be considered as a live transplant donor. Now, had I actually read the email correctly (I was pretty caught up in the update and need for a transplant). I managed to skip over the part about being a donor and started reading about the blood type compatibility. I was not a match, but Brian was. So I asked if he was up for donating blood. Of course he said yes. We had to provide a bunch of info about his health status, height, weight, etc. All the while, still not realizing what I was signing him up for. A week later after the holiday, I was chatting with another one of my co-workers about it, and how his fiancé was a donor match also. It then occurred to me what I had signed Brian up for! I had to go back and read the email from HR again, and yep, sure enough, I had volunteered his liver. Oh my gosh!
Okay…back to Emerson…We work for a great company with awesome health benefits and our HR team was able to ensure the transplant expenses for both Emerson and the donor were covered. However, as you can imagine she has a very long road ahead of her and is still in the hospital. So, in an effort to contribute more to their GoFundMe page, I’d like to donate the earnings from Fit Active Life between now and the end of the month. No matter how much or how little that amount is, I know every bit counts to this family.
That’s where you can contribute to this little lady’s future! There is an awesome opportunity for you to have full access for the year to every Beachbody workout via the On Demand platform. And when I say everything, I truly mean it. All programs, including premium content, deluxe workouts and best of all, complete access to the 3 new programs launching this year, without having to pick up the DVD’s! At my last count there were over 45 exercise programs and about $6k worth of content when you add up all the exclusive On Demand programs, like the Fixate Cooking Show and the new 3 Week Yoga Retreat and all nutrition guides. Of course if digital workouts are not your jam and you want to snag a new DVD set, that’s totally cool. Or maybe you just want to dial in on your nutrition with a month supply of superfoods. No matter what you need, 100% of my income goes to Emerson.
Below are a few quick links. If you choose to pick up a Challenge Pack (and it can be any program, not just the On Demand All Access option here), you’ll automatically be enrolled in my February health & fitness accountability group kicking off on January 30th, and I’ll be tossing in a special gift as my thank you to you for helping contribute to this amazing family who will be so appreciative of our support.
I realize you don’t know Emerson or her parents, but I know that as a part of my fitness community you have an amazing heart, and while you take care of your health this year, giving to her fund to ensure she can get all the healthcare she needs is the best gift you can give her.
If you’d prefer just to donate to her fund directly, that would be awesome. Emerson’s GoFundMe page.
