Happy Friday! I’m coming at ya with five of my favorite personal development books to help all of you female entrepreneurs rock your businesses!
These books where chosen because over the course of the past three years, each one has played a major role in helping me develop my vision as a coach, gain more confidence in my ability to help others, get to a deeper purpose of why I spend the time I do on my business and in the end, they have helped keep me centered in remembering who I’m fighting for every day.
Hope you enjoy a few of these fun faves of mine. I only pick items I love and use, so you can trust that they will not disappoint! I do share affiliate links and we make little income when you buy items, this way I can keep trying new things and sharing them with you!
The Happiness Diet
When I first became a coach, two of my co-workers recommended that I read The Happiness Diet. It gives a great explanation of the MAD (Modern American Diet), how it’s destroying us from the inside, making our kids obese and how we need to rethink the foods we eat. If you’re a new coach and have the basics down, or if you’re not sure where to start with food, this is a great read. Breaks down processed foods, explains what and why we should eat REAL food to fuel our bodies and brains, and has a simple meal plan to follow too.
Start with Why
In 2015, at my husband’s first Beachbody Coach Summit, Simon Sinek was one of our main session speakers. He absolutely rocked our world with his presentation on WHY. His book, Start with Why, How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, is down right profound. Are you a leader who inspires? Do you work for one in your “day job”? One of my favorite take-aways from this book (and there are many), is about charisma. Not a word you hear a lot these days. The part of the book I love states this; “Charisma has nothing to do with energy; it comes from a clarity of WHY. If come from absolute conviction in an ideal bigger than oneself. Energy, in contrast, comes from a good night’s sleep or lots of caffeine. Energy can excite. But only charisma can inspire. Charisma commands loyalty. Energy does not.” I’ll let you think about that. 🙂 (pg 134).
Girl Code
Now, let’s get rockin’. If you are a female entrepreneur ready to take your biz to the next level, Girl Code is the book for you! I’ve read it twice and I continually go through it to revisit my notes, goals and take-aways. This book was the first one where I actually was inspired to take pen to paper and compete all of the end-of-chapter activities. Things I put down two years ago are coming into focus. Have I achieved everything I thought I would at this point? Not yet. But if you are serious about setting goals and building a business, trust and believe in this book and do the chapter activities.
Find Your Extraordinary
Any of you Stella & Dot consultants? If you haven’t read this book yet, definitely get it today! Find Your Extraordinary is authored by Jessica Herrin, CEO and Founder of Stella & Dot Family Brands. I love this book because she is smart, a wife, mom, was a total bad ass in her career and she wanted something more for herself and her family. Sound familiar? I thought so. 🙂 She discusses the pace of being an entrepreneur, and I love this take-away; “The point is, whatever goal you’re striving for, don’t pick a pace that will make you miserable. And don’t expect the results of one pace when you are embracing another. Pick what you pick and be happy with it.” Be happy, and build at the pace that works for your life!
Business Boutique
While I haven’t finished the Business Boutique – A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves, what I have read has been nothing short of awesome. Christy Wright is part of the Dave Ramsey contingent and I am loving what she teaches. Here is a HUGE thing I think you’ll be able to relate to, as I did. One section is titled; Remember Who You’re Fighting For. She goes through the gamete of what we experience; the haters, the loyal clients and everything in between. She does a great job reminding us, that as entrepreneurs we go through lots of ebbs and flows in our business and we get off track, burnt out and can lose sight of why we started our business to begin with. When you get to this point, when you are thinking you’re not cut out for this gig, Stop. Reset. And remember who you’re fighting for, re-strategize if needed, and get back after it! Be yourself. Stay authentic. Your tribe is there there waiting for YOU.
If you have a favorite personal development book, be it for self-care or business building, please share!
