Welcome to winter!!
Who else has dry skin? Ugh, me too. If you follow my Instagram or Facebook pages, you have seen me post about my favorite remedy for dry skin during the winter, coconut oil lotion bars! I thought it may be helpful to have a few more details on how to make these bad boys, because they will rock your world! And just so you know, they are great all year long!
I love homemade products like this. Not only because they are super easy, but because I control the ingredients, the level of scent and can trust that the benefits my body/skin will gain is uncompromising.
Only 2 Ingredients Needed!
All it takes is coconut oil (organic or raw is best) and essential oils. For real, you could make these with just two ingredients! I ended up only using a few of the oils pictured, but you can get creative and make them to suit your needs!
Scoop out a couple cups worth of coconut oil and put it in a microwave safe bowl with a spout, or as I used, a liquid measuring cup.
Place the coconut oil in the microwave and heat it for 30 seconds at a time. You don’t need it to be hot, you just need it to be melted, then you’re ready for the oils. If you shower in the morning and want something to help you wake up; go for peppermint and lemon. Need something more relaxing, lavender and sandlewood are spot on. Play around, but most citrus oils are great for opening up your senses! Start with 10 drops of each, and go from there.
I use DoTerra and Young Living oils. If you’d like to learn more about essential oils, head over here!
The rest!
Here are the rest of the steps to make these awesome, easy homemade coconut oil lotion bars!
- Set up 12 (or more) silicone cupcake liners on a baking sheet. This is my preferred vehicle for the bars because they are super easy to extract.
- After you melt the coconut oil, add your essential oils and stir.
- Pour the coconut oil into each liner. I like to fill mine about half way.
- Make room in your fridge and chill for an hour (or until the oil hardens). Or if you’re in a cool weather spot you can set them outside.
- Once they have cooled, pop them out and store in a zip bag and store in the fridge.
- When you are ready to use one, grab it about 5 minutes before your shower or detox bath to take the chill off slightly.
- Use all over your body, rinse well and pat dry with a towel.
WARNING!!! Your shower/bath floor will be super slick, so be very careful and warn your spouse!
I hope you love these. Let me know what oil combos you come up with!
